With its crystal clear waters, white beaches, immaculately sunny weather and friendly citizens, Croatia is one of my very favourite places to visit in the world when it comes to enjoying a relaxed holiday by the beach.
I usually opt for a flat, with a terrace close to the ocean, rather than living in a city. This is because I want to start my days with a breakfast with an ocean view.
Split is, compared to Dubrovnik and Zadar, according to my experience by far the easiest city to find vegan restaurants in. When I visited Dubrovnik and Zadar (a couple of years back now, there was none, but I’m sure that has changed by now).
Split is also a city that I suspect has more visitors that are used to a luxury lifestyle, judging by all the luxury superyachts that anchor in the city harbour. So I’m sure that this fact has helped to spur the availability of vegan restaurants and options in the available.

Split
Macro Vega
Here you can choose between vegan, vegetarian and even raw food dishes. They have a mixed menu with influences from all over the world. However the desserts have a local feel to them. When I was there I splurged and had a pasta pesto dish with smoked tofu and ice cream for dessert. The second time I
was there, I tried to be a bit more sensible due to spending so much time at the beach in a skimpy bikini, so I had raw pasta with a raw pancake for dessert. Loved it!

Marthas Veggie Fushion
Small restaurant that serves dishes with influences from all over the world. The food is light and fresh and doesn’t make you heavy afterwards. The portion sizes are good too.
I went here twice as well. Once for a main dish – the falafel bowl, the other time for dessert – a raw chocolate cake with homemade herbal iced tea.

Silk
This is a mixed kitchen, meaning they serve meat as well. They serve various Asian-inspired dishes and you can find vegan dishes on the menu. However, they are only marked as vegetarian so ask when you order what you can eat.
I had the curry and it was a nice change for me that had eaten a lot of salads and such for a while.

This a smoothie, juice and bowl place. I made my own pokébowl but they also have a vegan option on the menu. Also serves acacia bowls and makes smoothies and juices.

An organic food store chain that has a couple of locations in Split. One in the city centre where you can buy baltic vegan food and try local desserts, but also stock up on vegan staples if you live in a flat.

Hvar
Vita Health Food Bar
I just had to add the island Hvar to my list. Since I was so surprised to find a great restaurant with plenty of vegan options on its menu! This was when I was island hopping and I didn’t think I would be able to eat properly during that day. But I found this place in the harbour and had a great raw cacao smoothie!
